Support Stream

When we carried out our research that underpins The BASE, the young people we consulted indicated that they would like a range of informal support that they could access. Since 2011 we have steadily built up what this means in response to young people's identified needs at each specific stage of their development.

Provision currently offered includes:

  • Advocacy - trained Advocates help our young people to take action in their life choices - we aim to help them say what they want; help secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need.
  • Mentoring - we assist individual's growth and development by sharing wisdom and experience, teaching skills or modelling behaviour.
  • Work experience - we offer bespoke work experiences for young people based on both their interests or course needs and ours.
  • Volunteering opportunities - a recognised method of enhancing a CV plus an opportunity to develop an individual's skills and experience.
  • Guidance on writing CV's, UCAS applications and job applications.
  • Keyfund - we encourage young people to develop their soft skills and abilities by participating in the Key fund scheme. This gives them an opportunity to apply for funding to do activities outside of the provision offered by CHAT.
  • Quiet space for completing course work with access to the internet and printing facitilities.
  • C-Card, sexual health and counselling are offered by our partners Streetwise Newcastle www.streetwisenorth.org.uk and West End Youth Enquiry Service (WEYES) www.children-ne.org.uk/WEYES
